Do you maintain a dental blog? There are a number of reasons to maintain a blog, from showcasing your expertise to offering new content for Google to crawl and index, a potential way to boost rankings over time. But your blog only works if you’re choosing the right subjects to write about. How do you choose the right blog topics?
Who is Your Audience?
The relevance of your blogs is crucial, for several reasons. If you’re writing about subjects unrelated to your practice, this could impact our rankings. After all, at that point your keywords are either unrelated and therefore won’t direct people looking for dental services to you, or you’re stuffing relevant keywords into irrelevant topics awkwardly, which can lead to penalties.
Your topics should be related to the services you provide. In addition, you want them to be helpful and informative for your patients, or for potential leads checking out your site. You should give some thought to your patients. What issues do they come to you for? What information do you wish they were more aware of? What questions do they often ask you? With these three queries, you have the makings of multiple topics.
Can You Reuse Topics?
Let’s be very clear here: you can reuse topics, YOU CANNOT REUSE BLOGS. Even if the blog is five years old, do not copy and paste old content. Doing so can have a negative impact on your SEO. You always want your content to be original, even if it’s a topic you’ve covered before. For example, about once a year we do a variation on this topic, choosing the best blog ideas, but we never copy and paste an old one, but write a new one each time.
