On Tuesday, kids across the country will either be going around the neighborhood filling sacks and buckets with candy, or participating in a fall fest or a trunk-or-treating adventure. No matter what, this time of year means kids suddenly enjoy an influx of candy. As a dentist, you know the dangers this can mean for little smiles. Fortunately, this is a perfect time to offer a Halloween-related promotion!
Many dentists offer a buyback program for candy. Basically, children can bring their excess candy into the office, the dentist then weighs the candy and pays a dollar per pound. Some then donate the candy they’ve gathered to Operation Gratitude, when then sends the donated candy overseas to our troops. Paying a handful of dollars is a good deal if it means protecting little smiles, and also giving families another reason to schedule a post-Halloween visit! New Patient Specials
We’ve recently had several clients offer a new patient special, which is typically an exam (with x-rays) and cleaning for a discount rate, typically around $99. While reminding people of how the excessive consumption of candy can lead to decay, you can then talk about your new special on social media and your blog, hopefully garnering a few leads in the process and helping your dental practice grow.

If you offer children’s dental services, you can also have fluoride treatments or dental sealants as a special. Halloween is a great time to bring up protecting smiles from decay, especially since the holiday season is not far behind!
