In order to enjoy better rankings on search engine result pages (SERPs), your website needs to be crawled and indexed. There is plenty of talk about different ways, and tricks to use, to ensure Google’s bots crawl your website frequently and index accordingly. However, one of the easiest methods is to blog. Did you know blogging can potentially increase Google crawl rates?
Blogging and Google Crawl Rates
Whenever you post a blog, the search engine registers this new content, crawling and indexing it. Therefore, frequent blogging means frequent attention from Google. No need for black hat tactics or tricks, just solid content released on a regular basis. In addition, you can consider using an XML sitemap, like MDPM Consulting does on all of our sites. An XML sitemap feeds content to the general web index for search engines.
Tips for Successful Blogging
Now, since Google is focused on user experience, the bots will look at the content of your blog. Poorly written, stolen, or repetitive content can actually have a negative impact on your rankings. How do you ensure you’re blogging correctly? Here are a few tips:
- Post frequently: We suggest posting four times a week, or about 16 times a month.
- Provide quality content: Remember, this isn’t just about SEO. Potential clients may look at what you post to judge your experience and expertise.
- No recycling: One of the few times you’ve heard that, right? Don’t reuse old blogs verbatim, this can hurt your SEO strategy. However, you can revisit older topics, just be sure your actual post is unique and original.
- Share: After posting, share the content on your social media accounts. Gaining more shares and likes not only helps crawl rates, but can also aid in your quest to improve rankings.
What About Videos?
Recently, more and more people have been suggesting that adding videos to your website is a great way to increase ratings and improve your SEO rankings. However, while we would never discourage them, incorporating videos won’t help your website get crawled and indexed as effectively as blogging will. Videos are expensive to create, can’t be added regularly, and simply offer a lower ROI when compared to posting blogs.
