Good question, right? Titles are extremely valuable, and are often the key to pushing a person to click and read your content. But choosing the right title can be difficult. We live in the age of clickbait titles, “5 Things About X That Will Blow Your Freaking Mind” or “Find Out How This Simple Thing Will Completely Change Your Life”. The goal of these aren’t to offer content, but to get you to click and see ads (You’ll notice many of these will drag articles out over multiple pages). As a dentist, you want to grab attention, but you also want to do so in a professional manner and to offer valuable content to your readers/patients. So, how do you choose a great title?
Blogging and SEO
Blogging helps SEO by providing Google with a steady flow of new content to crawl and index, which in turn can potentially help rankings on a search engine results page. In addition, blogs are a great way to show potential patients your expertise in dentistry (which is why having well-written, clinically accurate, and approachable content is absolutely crucial!)
Who, What, Why, and How
Long tail keywords are keyword phrases meant to mimic the way we search on a smartphone or with a voice search program, such as Siri or Cortana. Often, we ask questions instead of just using keywords (ex. “Where is a dentist in Dallas” as opposed to “dentist Dallas”). By incorporating who, what, why, and how into titles, you can help your content pop up in relevant local searches.
What are You Offering?
Now, a title should grab a person’s attention, but also let them know exactly what your content offers. For example, “How Do I Brighten My Teeth?” or “What Causes A Toothache?” are questions people often ask, while they also tell the reader exactly what your blog will be about. Knowing your audience is the key to creating appropriate content and perfect titles. What issues concern your patients? What questions do they often ask? What issues would you like them to be more aware about? Know your audience and write for them!
