A good system for generating this word-of-mouth can be vital to a practice, and fortunately, you have the means to do so available to you!
An Internal Approach
The idea is simple: Each morning, your team will take a look at the patients they will see that day and identify family members that haven’t been in, such as a spouse, a college-age kid home for summer or spring break, an emergency contact listing that hasn’t been in, etc. The team members then ask their patients about them, and hopefully, the patient will then encourage the person to attend. At the end of the month, the team member with the most appointments gets a prize! This can encourage your team members to actively participate.
Now, be sure you know the patients’ stories, divorce or death can make for an awkward conversation that does the opposite of what you want, so know your patient’s history before asking!
