No Escape at The 2016 Leadership Retreat!

At MDPM, we like to set time aside to work on our team working and leadership skills and discuss what we can do to improve our services. Since our entire team is located in the DFW area, we can all gather at our annual leadership retreat to work on ways to improve workflow and internal operations and boost our level of service for our valued clients.

After a day of seminars and workshops, I decided it was time to stretch our legs and test our communication and teamwork skills at The Escape Room in Southlake. The Escape Room offers a number of different rooms filled with puzzles that must be solved to gather clues and, eventually, find a way out. In just 60 minutes, we had to navigate out of three different rooms using our problem solving skills and — you guessed it — communication with each other.

There are a lot of personality and work types in the MDPM office. From techies, to business pros, to writers, to marketers, to designers, we all have different styles of communicating. On the job, however, we all speak the same language: client satisfaction. To put all of these types in the same room under a time crunch armed with only a set of walkie talkies, their own sleuthing abilities, and the same set of limited information was interesting (and a little stressful at times). Each member of the team had a moment when their thoughts were so obvious: “I could have said that more nicely.,” “I should be more patient right now.,” “How am I contributing to the team and the common goal?”, and so on and so forth.

In the end, it came down to speed, communication, and understanding. A lot like client service, don’t you think?

Needless to say, we all had a blast and learned a lot in the process.

Also, we highly recommend The Escape Room for retreats/team building and an out-of-the-box, fun group activity.

Now, we’re back in the office and implementing the ideas our team came up with during our retreat. Each year we strive to provide our clients with high quality services so their practices can continue to thrive and grow; 2016 will be no different!
