Web Design Trends for 2017

Website designs that become trends do so because they garner a lot more user interaction, and as with all things esthetic, such trends change every year. While your website should accurately reflect the aura of your practice, it also helps to pay attention to the kinds of design specifics that draw more visitors and keep them interested. Thanks to the broader use of mobile devices with more high-definition screens, these design trends are becoming increasingly more prominent and will likely continue to do so throughout the year.

More Artistic Typefaces

In the past, big and bold typefaces were the de-facto way to go, but lately, designers are having much more fun with more stylistic fonts, like serif. Many people now have high-definition screens on their phones as well as their computers and laptops, allowing thinner, alternating strokes to display beautifully without breaking apart at different resolutions.

Darker Esthetics

Over the last few years, minimalism has been a dominant concept in website design, with simple light or dark backgrounds. Recently, this trend has morphed slightly with a bigger focus on darker esthetics, sometimes incorporating monotone images and photographs. The goal is to create a fun contrast that sticks out, but not jarringly so, in order to draw visitors’ eyes to areas of interaction.

New Navigation Patterns

Many websites continue to place their navigations at the top of each page. But the best place for it is where it doesn’t get in the way, but is still obvious enough to new visitors that they don’t have to search for it. Designers typically have fun playing with navigation design, and with mobile-friendly websites employing more hidden navigation menus, desktop versions are quickly catching up to the trend.
